GM Korea Sets Domestic Sales Records in 2013

SEOUL --(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company set an annual domestic sales record of 151,040 vehicles in 2013. It topped the automaker’s previous record of 145,702 vehicles sold in 2012.

December domestic sales totaled 17,853 units, which was up 25.0 percent from 14,279 units sold in the same month in 2012. It was GM Korea’s best monthly sales ever and its sixth consecutive month of year-on-year domestic sales growth. It helped GM Korea end the fourth quarter with record sales of 45,875 units.

GM Korea’s entire lineup had its best month of the year in December. The Chevrolet Spark continued to lead the way, with year-on-year sales growth of 29.3 percent to 6,382 units. It was followed by the Cruze and Orlando, which sold 2,277 and 2,142 units respectively. The Captiva, Damas and Labo recorded sales growth of 122.0, 117.9 and 114.1 percent from the previous December.

The recently launched Aveo with a new 1.4L turbocharged engine, the Malibu with additional safety and convenience features, and the Trax (which was named the Safest Car of the Year in 2013 by Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) all had a third consecutive month of sales growth on a monthly basis.

GM Korea had total sales of 72,840 vehicles in December, with exports of complete vehicles totaling 54,987 units. GM Korea also exported 88,031 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.

In 2013, GM Korea sold 780,518 vehicles (151,040 units in the domestic market and 629,478 units in export markets, excluding CKD). In addition, GM Korea exported 1,184,774 CKD products last year.
