GM Korea’s Domestic Sales Rise 8.4% in January

SEOUL --(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company sold 10,873 vehicles in the domestic market in January, which was an increase of 8.4 percent from 10,031 vehicles sold in the same month last year. It was the automaker’s best January since 2007 and its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth.

The Cruze and Malibu led the way in the domestic market. Sales of the Cruze, which recently added a 1.4-liter gasoline turbo model to its lineup, increased 65.4 percent from January 2013. The 2014 Malibu, which comes with new convenience and safety features such as Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and the MyLink smart infotainment system, helped the nameplate increase sales by 36.2 percent from the same period last year.

Sales of the 2014 Captiva, which is available with a new City Package and a 2.2-liter engine, rose 173.6 percent on a year-over-year basis. The Orlando, which recently launched a Camper Package for those who have an outdoor lifestyle, generated sales of 1,234 units. This was up 59.2 percent from January of last year.

GM Korea had total sales of 53,606 vehicles in January, with exports of complete vehicles totaling 42,733 units. GM Korea also exported 100,656 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.
