SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--The GM Korea Employee Foundation, a social welfare organization established by GM Korea employees, donated 36 vehicles today to social welfare facilities across Korea.

A vehicle donation ceremony was held at the company’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon. GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha, GM Korea Labor Union Chairman Ki Min, Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea President Je-Hoon Lee, actor and honorary ambassador Hong-Ryul Lee, and representatives of the charities receiving vehicles were among the 150 attendees.

GM Korea delivered 30 Chevrolet Spark mini-cars, along with five Damas and one Labo mini-commercial vehicles, to 36 social welfare facilities nationwide. The recipients assist children, disabled individuals, the elderly, multicultural families and homeless people, and support volunteer activities. They include the Incheon Nam-gu Metropolitan City Volunteer Center, Kumkang Social Welfare Center for the Disabled and Siloam Day Care Center. The donated vehicles will be used for consultation, education, meal delivery, medical care and volunteer services.

With today’s donation, GM Korea has now delivered 100 vehicles to social welfare organizations since March as part of the celebration of Chevrolet’s second anniversary in Korea and 360 vehicles since the company’s establishment in 2002.

Rocha said, “I hope these vehicles will serve as ”beautiful feet“ for those in need. GM Korea will continue to carry out various CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities, focusing on welfare, education, environmental protection and safety, thus fulfilling our responsibility as a good corporate citizen.”

Lee said, “The Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea thanks GM Korea’s employees for their care and support of those less fortunate. They are helping us in our mission to help our neighbors in need.”

The representative of one of the organizations that received a donated vehicle said, “We had encountered mobility issues. With GM Korea’s donation, our volunteers will now be able to deliver educational programs.”

The GM Korea Employee Foundation signed an agreement with the Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea in March to donate vehicles. It accepted applications from social welfare organizations and facilities across the nation. The vehicle recipients were selected based on several criteria, such as the appropriateness and objective of the organizations, the necessity for a vehicle, and the scope and type of end users.

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has been carrying out projects to support those in need, including reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, making kimchi, supporting special classes for talented students and hosting concerts. In addition to donating vehicles, GM Korea employees also donate their time and services through activities such as repairing welfare facilities, offering material support and providing emergency assistance.
