SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--GM Korea Company announced today that it sold 58,899 vehicles in April, including 10,260 vehicles in the domestic market and 48,639 complete vehicles in export markets.

GM Korea’s sales in Korea were down 21.8 percent from 13,113 units sold in the same month last year due in large part to the economic downturn and overall drop in vehicle demand in the domestic market.

Exports of complete vehicles in April were up slightly to 48,639 units from 48,619 units exported in the same month last year. GM Korea also exported 97,544 complete knockdown (CKD) kits of parts and components to be assembled into vehicles.

GM Korea expects sales to rebound in May thanks to the positive consumer response to its Chevrolet lineup, including the recently launched 2014 G2 Cruze and Aveo, Malibu, Trax, Captiva and Orlando, as well as the Alpheon. Several of these models feature GM’s new second-generation six-speed transmission.

In celebration of the month of the family, GM Korea will begin a new sales campaign in May. Those who sign a contract this month to purchase a Malibu, Orlando or Cruze and make their payment in June will be eligible to win a trip for up to four people to an overseas destination. GM Korea is also continuing its customer-driven marketing promotions such as no-interest/super-low-interest installment payments along with a variety of customer giveaways.

For the first four months of 2013, GM Korea recorded total sales of 262,886 vehicles - 43,232 vehicles in the domestic market and 219,654 complete vehicles in export markets. This was a decrease of 0.3 percent from 263,556 units sold in the same period last year. GM Korea also exported 422,028 CKD products in the first four months of 2013, which was up 4.1 percent from the same period last year.
