SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--Three hundred GM Korea employees and other volunteers gathered today at the company’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon to produce 10 tons of kimchi for 50 local welfare organizations. The annual Making Kimchi with Love activity was organized by the GM Korea Employee Foundation.

Participants included GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha; GM Korea Vice President of Domestic Vehicle and Powertrain Manufacturing Youngcheol Jeon; GM Korea Vice President of Labor Relations Kundo Cho; GM Korea Vice President of HR Mark Polglaze; GM Korea Vice President of Powertrain Pyongwan Park; GM Korea Government Relations and Public Policy Senior Advisor Inbom Choi; GM Korea Corporate Affairs Managing Director Jina Hwang; GM Korea Quality Managing Director Edson Monteforte; GM Korea Legal Managing Director Richard Makov; GM Korea employees and their family members; and members of the Incheon community.

The kimchi was packed into 1,000 parcels that will be delivered to disadvantaged children and the handicapped by Yelimwon, Kwangmyungwon, the Shinmyeong Orphanage, the Eokkaedongmu Local Children Center and other institutions. Since 2005, GM Korea has supported the production of 83 tons of kimchi.

“I hope that through the effort of our company and friends, we can help those less fortunate enjoy a happier winter,” said Rocha. “GM Korea and our employees believe that we have an obligation to give back to our society. This is part of everything we do.”

Ha-young Jung, Secretary-General of Incheon Association of The Welfare Institutes for The Disabled, said: “The generosity of GM Korea’s employees is contributing to a more compassionate society. We appreciate their ongoing support and helping hand.”

The Making Kimchi with Love activity has been one of the most popular events for GM Korea’s local and foreign employees and their families for the past seven years. Similar events are being held this month at GM Korea’s Gunsan, Changwon and Boryeong plants.

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has been carrying out projects to support those in need, including reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, supporting special classes for talented students and giving musical instrument to a visually impaired orchestra. In addition to donating vehicles, GM Korea employees donate their time and services through activities such as repairing welfare facilities, offering material support and providing emergency assistance.
