In granting CalSouthern initial accreditation, WASC has found the university to be in substantial compliance with its Standards of Accreditation and accompanying Criteria for Review, encompassing areas including teaching and learning, student success, integrity, quality assurance and continuous institutional improvement, among others. CalSouthern was specifically commended for its organization and communication, the faculty’s establishment of student learning outcomes and assessment of student learning, the university’s use of data and metrics to inform decision making, and its “remarkable culture of cooperation and collaboration.”

“CalSouthern is extremely pleased and very proud to have achieved this important milestone,” says University President Dr. Caroll Ryan. “It was an extensive and rigorous process, but one we undertook primarily for the numerous and significant benefits that regional accreditation will bring to our students. This marks a new period of growth for CalSouthern, not merely in terms of enrollment, but in terms of the new degree programs, student services and academic resources we will be able to provide our learners.”

“CalSouthern is thrilled to become a part of the WASC community,” says Nicole Lesher, CalSouthern’s Director of Institutional Research and Assessment/Accreditation Liaison Officer. “We look forward to collaborating with other member institutions within our region to develop and share best practices that will benefit our students. We also are eager to give back by participating in research, conferences and site visits, among other activities. We plan to be an active member of the WASC community for years to come.”
