SEOUL--(Korea Newswire)--Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today announced its call for abstracts for the second annual Republic of Korea Science, Technology and Research (RoKST&R) program, an open competition for Korean universities and research institutions to work on advanced technologies that support the development of South Korea’s creative economy.

RoKST&R will provide an opportunity for researchers and students to address problems of national importance through funding and mentoring opportunities with Lockheed Martin industry experts in areas such as engineering innovation, technology development and systems integration.

“We know universities and research institutions serve as the sources of inspiration for ideas and innovations that are going to shape the future of Korea,” said Lockheed Martin Chief Technology Officer Keoki Jackson. “Through RoKST&R, we’re hoping to ignite the passion of these thought leaders to tackle tough challenges through innovation, while providing the mentorship and funding it takes for those ideas to become reality.”

Abstract submissions are due May 29 and selected teams will be notified in late June to submit proposals by Aug. 14. The 2015 RoKST&R projects will be awarded in October through a panel review by Lockheed Martin fellows, scientists and subject matter experts.

RoKST&R is Lockheed Martin’s first industry-academia collaboration competition in Asia. In the program’s first year, more than 30 proposals were submitted, with three teams selected to participate in one-year research projects focused on change propagation assessment due to technology updates, flow analysis for high-altitude platforms and behavior analysis of nanoparticle-infused liquid fuel.
