BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Korea Newswire)--Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of media processing and wireless solutions, today announced that it has partnered with Deltenna Limited, a designer and manufacturer of innovative wireless infrastructure and access points, to create new and cutting edge Small cell basestation solutions. At Mobile World Congress 2012, they are introducing the world's smallest Microcell/Small cell platform, the WhiteStar, available to OEMs, Integrators and Operators.

WhiteStar is a fully integrated, true SDR, multi-frequency and multi-standard, Small cell platform that can operate two standards concurrently through dual TRx 2x2 MIMO paths (TDD & FDD). It provides system integrators with a way to dramatically reduce the time to market of their Microcell/Small cell solution. Such an innovative Small cell design is made possible by the flexibility and capacity (64 HSPA+ users in a 10 km cell) of the OCT2224W baseband SoC that runs any cellular PHY and by the software-configurable FARM100 transceiver sub-system designed by Deltenna.

“We have effectively produced a Small cell that offers the performance of a Microcell with the power consumption of a Femtocell in a package no larger than a smartphone. OEMs who are looking to fill a gap in their product road map will find that WhiteStar enables them to get a solution out to market much quicker and with minimal engineering resource,” explains Andrew Fox, CEO at Deltenna. “Our partnership with Octasic was crucial in helping us reach our vision for the WhiteStar. The OCT2224W offers impressive power efficiency which was the key to achieving such a high level of integration. Competing devices consumed too much power preventing us from reaching our 5“ by 2.5” form factor.”

WhiteStar includes a Dual-core ARM® Cortex A9, a Wi-Fi Access Point and GPS-based timing.

WhiteStar will also be integrated into an IP65 rated enclosure complete with a wide input range power supply and a 2W Front End Module. The complete solution is extremely power efficient and very compact, measuring only 9“ by 5” by 4" and weighing less than 5Kg.

Designed to address the rapidly growing Small cell basestation market, Octasic's OCT2224W SoC ships with a 3GPP PHY software library that offers standards-compliant GSM, EDGE, WCDMA, HSPA+ and LTE. Through its partnership with Radisys (formerly Continuous Computing), Octasic also offers a completely integrated protocol stack (Layer 1, 2, 3) through a FAPI-compliant interface between PHY and MAC. This provides OEMs with the advantages of a complete Small cell solution while retaining the flexibility to develop their own Radio Resource Management component.

“Octasic reduces time to market by pre-integrating our software-based PHYs with Trillium's protocol stacks on our OCT2224W SoC,” says Emmanuel Gresset, VP Software Defined Radio at Octasic. “Our partnership with Deltenna was key to providing a highly-integrated SDR hardware platform to our customers. This combination makes it easy for any OEM to deploy quickly while reducing risk and remaining future proof.”

Deltenna and Octasic will be demonstrating the WhiteStar and OCT2224W wireless solutions at Mobile World Congress from February 27th to March 1st, 2012 at booth 2H58 of Hall 2.
