SEOUL --(Korea Newswire) June 15, 2011 -- DHL Express, the world’s leading cross-border express services provider, has named Jerry Hsu as the new CEO of Asia Pacific. In addition, Mr Hsu will join the DHL Express Global Management Board. The region is the company’s fastest growing, increasing revenues by over a third in 2010 compared to 2009.

Ken Allen, Global CEO of DHL Express, said: “Our future is all about profitable growth and Jerry has a sterling reputation having guided DHL’s Greater China Area to double-digit growth and generated more than US$1.5 billion sales turnover in the last few years. For years, DHL Express has been the clear market leader in international time definite services in Asia Pacific and, under Jerry’s entrepreneurial and passionate leadership, we will increase that advantage and optimize our organic growth potential.”

As former President of DHL Express Greater China, Mr Hsu was instrumental in developing DHL Express’ market leadership position in the Area’s key markets of Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as China, the company’s fastest-growing markets. Under Mr Hsu’s leadership, more than US$1.3 billion has been invested in the Greater China Area.

“To continue to grow and serve our customers in what is the fastest growing economic region in the world, the can-do entrepreneurial spirit that lies at the heart of DHL Express will be paramount to our success,” said Jerry Hsu. “Our customers need us to be close to the market, quick, nimble and responsive which is why we are investing in infrastructure and training. For example, as part of the Certified International Specialist program, DHL Express is investing in certifying all 100,000 employees as ‘International Specialists’ in the Express business.”

A veteran business leader with an impeccable track record, Mr Hsu joined DHL Express 10 years ago from DaimlerChrysler Corporation. At DaimlerChrysler, he held various senior positions during a 20-year tenure including Vice Chairman of Beijing Jeep Corporation and General Manager of Japan, Taiwan and China subsidiaries where he was instrumental in expanding and shaping the automotive industry in Asia, particularly in Japan and China. At DHL Express, Mr Hsu was Area Director responsible for Newly Industrialized Economies (NIE), which included Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. In September 2002, he was appointed Regional Director responsible for Greater China, Korea Peninsula and Mongolia before being named President for the Greater China Area.

In his new role as CEO Asia Pacific, Mr Hsu will focus on creating the most efficient model for this emerging market, drive growth, increase margins and extend DHL Express’ market-leading positioning. Based in Hong Kong, he will be responsible for a region that includes China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South East Asia, India and South Asia, and Oceania, and direct the ongoing expansion of capabilities and infrastructure.

In May, DHL Express introduced an additional next-day intercontinental flight between Asia Pacific and the U.S. and another one from the U.S. to the Middle East to help meet growing demand for services on these lanes.
